Can I still use 35mm film if only the first few inches have been exposed?

So I bought a pinhole camera yesterday and I put it together and it is all fine and dandy. Me being an extremely unexperienced camera-user did not realize that film cannot be exposed to light. Well I took it out of the canister to load it into the camera and the first (approx.) 5 inches were exposed. If I just put the cover back on and advance the film so that an unexposed strip comes out for the pictures to go on, will it work ok?
